Eligibility and Rules

Challenge Eligibility

 
  • Must be a current post-secondary student enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution (undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D.) and have reached the legal age of majority in their province or territory of residence. 
  • Teams must be 2-4 people. 
  • All team members must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary school. 
  • Individuals should be able to physically work in Canada if offered an internship opportunity. 
  • Teams must present an original idea not used in previous pitch events, school projects, grant proposals, etc.

 

Note: documentation of all the above is required to process any prizing (including ID and bank information for direct deposit). 

 

Challenge Rules

 

NOTE: By registering for and participating in the Interac U-Innovate Challenge (“Challenge”) organized by The Information Technology Association of Canada d/b/a TECHNATION Canada (“TECHNATION”) with interview prizing supplied by Interac Corp. (“Interac”), you (“you” or “Participant”) agree to comply with these official Challenge rules (“Rules”). If there is a conflict between these Challenge Rules and any terms and conditions on the TECHNATION Challenge website, these Challenge Rules shall prevail.

 

Intellectual Property Rights

All Submissions must be original works created during the Challenge and must not infringe the intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party, including any third party patents, copyrights or trademarks (“IP Rights”). By participating in the Challenge, you represent and warrant that your Submission does not infringe on the IP Rights of any third party and does not require obtaining a license, consent or approval from any person or entity. You agree that you will not include any third party assets in your Submission without prior written approval from Interac. Participants retain ownership of all IP Rights in and to Submissions. As a condition of participation, Participants grant Interac a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free and non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish, distribute, publicly perform, create a derivative work from and publicly display the Submission or part thereof.

 

Prizing

The team with the highest score on the basis of the Judging Criteria at the Round 2 stage of the Challenge shall be eligible to win the following prizes (“Prize”), subject to full compliance with the Rules: (1) a total cash prize of $16,000 to be distributed evenly among confirmed winning team members, and (2) an Interac interview to take place within three (3) months of the Challenge completion with each member of the confirmed winning team, with the possibility to participate in a one-semester internship opportunity at Interac.

Cash prizes will be distributed by TECHNATION no later than March 31, 2026.  Interac interviews for confirmed prize winners will be conducted within the first three months following the Final Pitch event at a mutually agreed upon time. Interviews do not guarantee an internship with Interac. Interac reserves the right to reschedule or cancel an interview should the confirmed winner and Interac be unable to schedule a mutually agreed upon time after multiple attempts to do so.

 

Code of Conduct

  • Participant will at all times conduct themselves in a professional manner and will not disrupt or otherwise interfere with the participation of other participants in the Challenge.
  • Any form of harassment, discrimination or unethical behaviour may result in immediate disqualification.
  • Participant shall not perform any activity that (i) is harmful to or materially interferes with any of the Challenge-related platforms; (ii) results in the storage, processing, publication or transmission of threatening, infringing or offensive material or constitutes spam or email abuse; or (iii) poses a security risk or results in violation of a third party’s IP Rights.
  • All timelines must be strictly adhered to.
  • Teams or individual members of a Team may be disqualified from the Challenge at Interac’s sole discretion for non-compliance with any of the Rules.

 

Privacy  

By entering the Challenge, you expressly consent to TECHNATION, its agents and/or representatives storing, sharing and using the personal information submitted in your Challenge registration form for purposes of administering the Challenge and in accordance with the TECHNATION Privacy Policy. You also expressly consent to TECHNATION sharing your email address with Interac for purposes of prize fulfillment.

 

Limitation of Liability

This Challenge is subject to all applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws. TECHNATION and Interac, and each of their subsidiaries and respective employees, officers, directors, agents, representatives, successors and assigns shall not be responsible for any loss, liability, damage or injury resulting from your participation in the Challenge, the awarding and use/misuse of the Prize or any portion thereof. Neither TECHNATION nor Interac shall be responsible for any technical malfunctions or errors or any injury or damage to a Participant’s or any other person’s computer or other device relating to or result from participating in the Challenge.

 

Photograph, Use of Likeness

By participating in the Challenge, you agree to the publication, reproduction and/or other use of your name, voice, statements about the Challenge, photograph and/or other likeness without further notice or compensation, in any publicity or advertisement carried out by or on behalf of TECHNATION or Interac in any manner whatsoever, including print, social media or online, in connection with the Challenge or to promote or showcase other TECHNATION or Interac innovation challenges.

 

Additional Terms

Modifications and Cancellation: The Rules may be modified and the Challenge may be cancelled at any time.  Any changes will be communicated through the official Challenge Website or via email to registered Participants.

Governing Law: These Rules and all related disputes will be governed by Ontario law.
